A specialist media strand where learners step into the studio, develop real broadcast journalism skills, and learn how to plan, script and present radio content.

Broadcast learning that feels real

The Radio Academy is delivered with Northants 1 and gives learners a genuine taste of life behind the mic. Sessions blend creative writing, technical skills and live presenting, so learners can see (and hear) the impact of their work in real time.

On‑air skills

Build confidence speaking to an audience and sounding professional on air.

  • Voice work and mic technique
  • Presenting solo and with a co‑host
  • Interviewing guests live and pre‑recorded
  • Introducing music, features and segments

Story & script

Learn how to turn ideas into tight, engaging audio content.

  • Planning shows and segments with a clear angle
  • Scripting links, intros and outros
  • Writing short news and entertainment pieces
  • Using questions to shape strong interviews

Production & teamwork

Discover what happens behind the scenes to make radio happen.

  • Understanding roles in a radio team
  • Basic editing and use of studio equipment
  • Running orders, timings and live problem‑solving
  • Working to briefs and reflecting on finished shows
